Issey Miyake and Apple have collaborated on a new product called the iPhone Pocket. The item launches on November 14 at select Apple Store locations and through the Apple webstore.

The iPhone Pocket functions as a rectangular holder made from 3D-knitted textile. Users wear the piece to carry their iPhone and other daily items. Production takes place in Japan.

The design draws from Miyake's Pleats Please collection. The holder features a ribbed, open structure that expands to accommodate different objects. While sized to fit an iPhone completely, the textile stretches to hold additional items. The open weave allows users to view their iPhone display without removing the device from the holder.

Two strap configurations are available. The short strap version works as a wristlet or attaches to bags. The long strap version functions as a shoulder or crossbody carrier. The short strap comes in eight color options. The long strap comes in three colors.

Yoshiyuki Miyamae serves as design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. He described the project's philosophy. "The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use," Miyamae said. He explained the concept centers on personal expression. "iPhone Pocket explores the concept of 'the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way,'" he noted. The simplicity reflects Miyake's design principles of leaving elements undefined to encourage personal interpretation.

Molly Anderson holds the position of vice president of Industrial Design at Apple. She outlined the shared values between the two companies. "Apple and Issey Miyake share a design approach that celebrates craftsmanship, simplicity, and delight," Anderson stated. She described the iPhone Pocket as an extension of Apple's product philosophy. The color selection was planned to coordinate with existing iPhone models and colors. This allows users to create customized combinations. Anderson emphasized the holder provides a new carrying method for iPhones, AirPods, and everyday objects.

The construction relies on a 3D-knitting technique. This method produces a seamless, flexible textile. The material stretches and returns to its original shape. The design concept stems from "a piece of cloth," according to the companies. The ribbed texture provides grip while allowing visibility through the fabric.

The pricing structure places the short strap version at $149.95. The long strap version costs $229.95. Both versions use the same holder construction. The strap length determines the price difference.

The collaboration represents a meeting of fashion design and consumer electronics. Issey Miyake built a reputation for textile innovation and structural clothing design. Apple focuses on product design that combines function with minimal aesthetic. The iPhone Pocket combines these approaches in a wearable accessory.
