Meta and Oakley announced their collaboration on a new line of performance eyewear that incorporates artificial intelligence technology. The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, pronounced "HOW-stuhn", represent the first product from this partnership between the social media company and the sports eyewear brand.

The glasses build upon Meta's previous collaboration with Ray-Ban, now targeting athletic and performance applications. Users can control the device hands-free while recording high-resolution video from a first-person perspective. The eyewear includes a built-in 3K camera system and offers up to eight hours of continuous battery life.

A charging case provides an additional 48 hours of power for extended use. The frames incorporate open-ear speakers on both sides, allowing users to listen to audio content during workouts while maintaining awareness of their surroundings. The glasses carry an IPX4 rating for protection against water and sweat.

Meta AI integration serves as the central feature, functioning as a personal assistant that can help plan workouts, answer questions, and initiate recording sessions through voice commands. The AI system has been integrated throughout the device's core functionality rather than added as a separate feature.

Six different models will be available when the full collection launches later this summer. Three variants include Oakley's PRIZM lens technology, which the company describes as an advanced optical innovation designed to optimize how the brain and eye process light. The limited edition model features 24K PRIZM polarized lenses with gold accents, marking Oakley's 50th anniversary.

Alex Himel, VP of Wearables at Meta, noted that both companies have spent years studying athlete requirements. He stated that glasses have become an ideal platform for music listening and video capture during physical activities. Meta has positioned smart glasses as a key component of its future strategy, following last fall's announcement of its Orion glasses prototype.

Both Oakley and Ray-Ban operate under Luxottica ownership. Rocco Basilico, Chief Wearables Officer at Luxottica, described the Meta partnership as part of a broader strategy to develop connected eyewear across multiple brands and technologies. The initiative aims to create products that serve different lifestyles and communities.

The limited-edition Warm Grey model became available for pre-order on July 11, priced at £499 GBP, $499 USD, and €549 EUR. The remaining collection, which includes prescription-ready options, will launch later in the summer with starting prices of £399 GBP, $399 USD, and €439 EUR.
