French skateboarder Victor "Doobie" Pellegrin has crafted a unique rendition of the iconic Vans Old Skool, drawing inspiration from his dual passions for skating and fishing.
The new Doobie Skate Old Skool Net features thoughtful modifications including a concealed mesh storage pocket inside the tongue, perfect for small essentials. Pellegrin selected water-resistant suede for the upper, reinforced the design with heavy-duty 10-ounce canvas side panels, and incorporated extra-strong laces for durability.
Adding artistic flair to the collaboration, illustrator Todd Francis created a custom footbed design that complements the shoe's nautical theme.
The release comes with a promotional film titled "Ye Tale of Doobie", filmed in a coastal Cornish fishing community. Directors Jack Lammas and Ed Hubert capture Pellegrin casting nets over his signature shoes, earning him the playful title "World's Finest Fisherman". Several notable skaters make appearances in the short film, including Harry Lintell, Helena Long, Notis Aggelis, Max Pack, Merryn Garner, and Michael Boardman.
In the YouTube promotion, Vans describes the shoe as "the mythical Doobie Skate Old Skool Net, a new take on the classic skate staple", referencing Pellegrin's journey from "humble skateboarder from a small French village" to "king of the high seas with his own colourway".
The Doobie Skate Old Skool Net will be released on April 24 through Vans' online store and at selected European skateboard retailers. Pricing information has not yet been announced.
