Summary:

  • OTTO 958 and ASICS released the GEL-BELARRAOTTO, a shoe built from two archival ASICS models, with a ripstop mesh upper and a detachable gaiter.
  • OTTO 958 opened an installation at Dover Street Market Paris around an artwork by Cauleen Smith, who shows work at the 61st Venice Biennale.
  • The shoe launched on 17 October at Dover Street Market Paris and otto958.com, with a global release on 21 October.

OTTO 958 and ASICS released the GEL-BELARRAOTTO™ shoe, which combines references to archival ASICS design with the construction of performance footwear. OTTO 958 is a project run by designer Kiko Kostadinov and the Los Angeles gallery Morán Morán.

The upper uses lightweight ripstop mesh. A detachable gaiter in the same material matches the upper. The silhouette follows the vintage ASICS STORMRACER Junior. The sole comes from the ASICS DESTAQUE K FF TF, a football shoe designed for artificial grass, hard pitches and indoor futsal courts. The colorway is Obsidian Grey and Kelp, and the style code is 1203B300-020. The GEL-BELARRAOTTO is not designed for competitive sports. If you play sport, wear footwear made for your sport.

OTTO 958 marked the release with an installation at Dover Street Market Paris, built around an artwork by Cauleen Smith. The installation belongs to the store’s program for Art Basel Paris, which includes 18 installations. The installation brings together the shoe and a limited-edition shirt, which marks Smith’s participation in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition is titled In Minor Keys and curated by Koyo Kouoh.

Smith was born in Riverside, California, in 1967, lives in Los Angeles and works in film, textiles, sculpture and installation. At the Biennale she presents The Wanda Coleman Songbook in the Arsenale. The work is a four-channel video installation about Los Angeles and the poet Wanda Coleman (1946 to 2013), with seven commissioned music tracks. The exhibition runs until 22 November 2026.

The shoe launched on 17 October, sold only at Dover Street Market Paris and otto958.com. The global release followed on 21 October.

Fact-check notes: the source dates The Wanda Coleman Songbook to 2025, but the Biennale and gallery listings give 2024, so I removed the year. The colorway, style code, Art Basel Paris context, Smith’s details and the Biennale closing date come from outside sources. The source lists no price, so none appears.
