Mizuno plans to release its Wave MG4 LS with Sean Wotherspoon on 30 October. The pairs go on sale online, in store and at selected retailers. Mizuno lists its sneaker range on its EMEA website.
Wotherspoon is an American designer and the founder of Round Two, a vintage retailer in Los Angeles. He worked on the shoe through SWJP, a project he runs between Los Angeles and Tokyo with Ryunosuke Uchida. Mizuno, a Japanese brand founded in Osaka in 1906, joins Nike, adidas and ASICS on his list of partners. His earlier releases include the Air Max 1/97 for Nike, the GEL-Lyte III for ASICS with atmos, and the Superstar and Gazelle for adidas.
The Wave MG4 LS reissues the fourth generation of Mizuno’s Wave Mustang series, launched in 2006. Tuan Le designed the original running shoe, and the midsole combines the Parallel Wave structure with U4ICX foam. The standard version uses oversized mesh, metallic overlays and a TPU RunBird logo. Mizuno describes Wave as a midsole technology inspired by nature, designed to absorb and disperse impact at foot strike. Wotherspoon’s version keeps this base and adds retro-looking materials and custom details.
The project comes in two colorways built around the idea of connecting city and nature. The first targets the global market and mixes shades of blue with red details. The second sells only in Japan and uses a quieter combination of grey, black and beige. If you live outside Japan, the blue and red pair is the one you buy.
Both pairs share one construction made of denim, breathable mesh and synthetic materials, with co-branding added. If you want a pair, check the EMEA site on 30 October for sizes and price.
