Prada has released the 2025 campaign for the Galleria bag with direction by Yorgos Lanthimos. The project extends the dialogue between cinema and fashion, bringing together one of the most awarded filmmakers of his generation and a global actress in Scarlett Johansson.

The campaign forms part of a series that entrusts the Galleria to major directors. Each year, Prada gives a filmmaker the freedom to reinterpret the bag. In 2024 Jonathan Glazer presented Johansson in a short film. For 2025, the collaboration passes to Lanthimos, marking the first time he works with Johansson.

The film presents Johansson performing sequences of ritualized actions in staged settings that resemble everyday spaces but feel estranged through repetition and choreography. She shifts into different identities, multiplying her presence while the Galleria remains constant. The bag functions as a symbolic object tied to change, an accessory that anchors each transformation.

Lanthimos’ approach reflects the visual language seen across his films such as Dogtooth, The Lobster, The Favourite, and Poor Things. His work often centers on ambiguity, surreal tension, and the fluidity of identity. The Prada campaign extends this language into the field of fashion imagery.

The choice of Lanthimos aligns Prada with contemporary cinema at the highest level. The director’s work has been presented at Cannes and Venice, where he has received awards including the Jury Prize and the Golden Lion. He has also exhibited photography at the Venice Biennale, highlighting his interest in visual art beyond film. The Prada collaboration continues this path, situating fashion as a stage for contemporary auteurs.

Scarlett Johansson’s presence adds another dimension. She has worked with a wide range of directors, from Sofia Coppola to Wes Anderson, and has combined acting with recent projects as a director. In this campaign she is not framed as a static figure, but as an active subject within Lanthimos’ narrative structure.

The campaign also reaffirms Prada’s long tradition of working with filmmakers. Past collaborations include projects with Wes Anderson, Ridley Scott, and Roman Polanski. By inviting Lanthimos, Prada positions itself as a cultural space where cinema interacts with fashion in ways that challenge conventional advertising.

The Prada Galleria campaign 2025 is more than a seasonal release. It places a fashion house in direct dialogue with international cinema, allowing a director to expand his practice into a new medium while anchoring the story to one of Prada’s signature accessories.
