For luxury goods valued at €100 or more, Vinted now offers an optional €10 authentication check. This covers a wide range of categories, including shoes, bags, apparel, accessories, and jewelry from numerous prestigious brands.
When a buyer selects this service, the purchased item is sent to a specialized facility in Germany. There, a team of experts examines the product in meticulous detail, scrutinizing every material, logo, hardware, stitching, and label. They utilize advanced techniques like magnification and UV lighting to identify even the most subtle signs of counterfeiting.
The evaluation process is comprehensive, drawing on the authenticators' extensive knowledge of each brand's history and production methods. Factors like color variations and wear patterns are assessed to distinguish authentic wear-and-tear from fraudulent modifications.
If the item passes inspection, it is then shipped to the buyer with a special authentication badge. However, if the experts determine the product is counterfeit, the transaction is canceled, and the buyer is issued a full refund. The seller is also warned, and repeat offenders face permanent removal from the platform.
