Mercedes-AMG does not sell a G 63 with a cargo bed. Brabus built one. The tuner from Bottrop, Germany, introduced the Brabus P 900 Rocket Edition, a pickup based on the W 465 series Mercedes-AMG G 63. Production stops at 10 units worldwide, and Brabus builds each truck to the wishes of the buyer. The vehicle shown in the press material lists at €711,718, an export price without German VAT.

The first Brabus XLP based on the G 63 premiered in February 2020. The P 900 Rocket Edition is a road-focused variant of the same pickup idea. Brabus lengthens the steel ladder frame by 50 centimeters (19.7 inches) and moves the rear suspension back by the same distance. The company states the frame keeps its full torsional rigidity. The truck measures 5.38 meters (211.8 inches) long, 2.06 meters (81.1 inches) wide and 2.05 meters (80.7 inches) high. Compared with a standard G 63 without the rear-mounted spare wheel, the length grows by 68.9 centimeters (27.1 inches).

You still get a four-door cabin. A steel bulkhead with a heated rear window sits behind the rear seats. Behind the bulkhead, the cargo bed has a metal floor, a metal tailgate that opens to the side and soft-teak decking with red Brabus lettering. The side panels use carbon fiber. Two lockable, waterproof cargo boxes sit directly behind the cabin.

The Rocket Edition Widestar widebody kit uses exposed carbon fiber for the front and rear fender flares, the front fascia and a trim panel on the tailgate. Red shows up in two stripes at the grille, in illuminated lettering on the tailgate and in the Rocket Launch Ambience Light beside the side exhaust pipes. The forged 24-inch Monoblock II EVO Platinum Edition wheels have a matte black three-spoke design with carbon-fiber aeroblades. The front wheels measure 10Jx24 with 295/30 ZR 24 tires. The rear wheels measure 12Jx24 with 345/25 ZR 24 tires. Hankook developed the Ventus tires for the Brabus 24-inch wheels. Ride Control coilovers lower the truck by about 45 millimeters (1.8 inches) compared with the base vehicle.

Brabus rebuilds the G 63 V8 in its own engine facility. Displacement rises from 3,982 cc to 4,407 cc, which the company calls 4.5 liters. The bore measures 84 millimeters (3.3 inches) and the stroke 100 millimeters (3.9 inches). The conversion adds forged pistons, a billet crankshaft, larger turbochargers, a charge pressure of 1.4 bar, high-pressure fuel pumps and reprogrammed engine management. The result is 662 kW (900 hp) at 6,200 rpm and 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft) at 2,900 rpm. Brabus puts the gain over the standard engine at 315 hp. Torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) inside the vehicle to protect the drivetrain.

A nine-speed automatic and permanent all-wheel drive send the power to the road. The truck accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h (174 mph), and the speedometer reads up to 300 km/h (186 mph). A button on the center console switches the stainless-steel exhaust between Sport mode and Coming Home mode.

Under the WLTP procedure, which sets official fuel consumption and CO2 figures for new cars, Brabus lists combined consumption of 14.4 liters per 100 kilometers (16.3 US mpg) and CO2 emissions of 330 g/km. The truck falls into efficiency class G and meets the Euro 6E-ISC-FCM standard.

The Brabus upholstery workshop trims the cabin in black leather and Alcantara. Shell quilting covers the seat center sections, which have perforations for the seat ventilation. The same pattern appears on the door panels, the footwells and the floor mats. Red stitching and piping contrast with the black surfaces, and the switches, door handles, speaker grilles and air vents carry the Rocket Red finish. Carbon fiber covers the pedal pads and the paddle shifters. LED lights in the paddles change from green to yellow to red to signal when you should shift up at high revs. The rear doors open to 90 degrees. Rear passengers read speed, engine rpm, outside temperature, G-forces, time and date on an instrument console in the Alcantara headliner.

Each truck comes with a Brabus Weekender travel bag in the same leather and quilting pattern as the interior. Brabus also registers every vehicle on the Aura Private Blockchain as a member of the Aura Blockchain Consortium. The Digital Product Passport records ownership and authenticity, and you read the passport through an NFC chip in the Spec Plate on the left side panel of the cargo bed.

To order, you contact Brabus through the Brabus website. Brabus builds each truck to the buyer’s wishes, and the €711,718 price applies to the vehicle shown.
