"From the East" is a collective created by Kid Miura, Lyuk, and Jannet. The project grew inside East Naples, with a close connection to the Bronx area of San Giovanni a Teduccio. The collective brings together musicians, filmmakers, designers, and visual artists linked by the same environment and shared experiences. Their recent project, tied to Jannet’s EP "FROM THE EAST", combined live music, projections, sound design, and street participation inside the neighborhood itself.

In this interview, the collective talks about the origins of the project, the role of collaboration, and the response from the local community.

Can you introduce yourselves and explain how the project started?

"From the East started from an idea shared by Kid Miura, Lyuk, and Jannet. We all come from East Naples, especially the Bronx area of San Giovanni a Teduccio. The collective was born from the need to connect people who work in different creative fields but come from places where access and visibility often feel limited.

The EP "FROM THE EAST" by Jannet covers five years of our lives. During those years we kept working with a clear direction. We wanted to build something connected to our experiences and to the environment around us. The release event also came directly from the neighborhood. People from the area took part in the process from the beginning. We were not trying to follow trends or build hype around the project. The focus stayed on music, visual work, and storytelling."

The project combines music, visuals, lighting, and design. How important was collaboration?

"Collaboration was the only possible approach. The people involved were already close to the project for years. Everyone brought their own work and skills into the process.
The event had no starting budget. People from the neighborhood contributed through donations and practical help. Residents, friends, and supporters all became part of the production.

The EP was fully produced by Kid Miura and Lyuk through their project KLOUDNINE. They also handled the sound design during the event. The visual side came from Marco Curcio, who worked as visual creative director. Large projections were displayed directly onto one of the residential buildings in the Bronx of San Giovanni. Marco worked on the visuals for months together with Trisha Palma and Riccardo Sergio, creating different visual pieces connected to specific songs.

At the end of the project, the team released a documentary video directed by Vincenzo Di Maio. The video included footage filmed by Fabio Turco, Sergio Nocerino, Cristian Di Domenico, Riccardo D’Urzo, and Cristian Castellano.

The collective also points out how many local contributions shaped the final result. Some people worked on flags and decorations. Others helped with clothing through Twins Design Studio and BRX. Fireworks and technical support also came from people living in the area."

What did it mean to see this happen in the Bronx of San Giovanni?

"For years those buildings were often reduced to stereotypes from outside perspectives. Seeing music and projections transform those spaces gave us a sense of pride. We believe the people living here have something to express and contribute. Seeing others notice this part of the neighborhood mattered to us."

Today many artists release music constantly, but fewer build a complete visual and cultural identity around their work. Was this important for you?

"We focused on honesty first. Jannet writes from observation and from direct experience. His lyrics come from the context around him, but he reshapes those details into something personal. We wanted every part of the project to stay connected to that approach. The visuals, sound, and setting all followed the same direction."

What did you feel while watching the buildings change during the performance?

"Satisfaction."

After seeing the public response, what does this project represent now?

"FROM THE EAST is the first part of a larger process. There are more stories connected to this environment and more people involved in the collective. For us, this project was a statement. We wanted to say that we exist. People interested in what comes next are welcome to follow the work."
