The Italian design house Gufram has released a monochromatic version of its CACTUS® coat stand, marking a departure from the piece's traditionally colorful appearance. Named BORING CACTUS®, this new edition transforms the 1972 design by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello into a uniform gray sculpture.
The original CACTUS® gained recognition for its unusual form and bright colors when it debuted over 50 years ago. This latest iteration maintains the distinctive shape but adopts a neutral palette, reflecting a different take on the design classic.
Standing at 170 centimeters tall, each BORING CACTUS® features four extending arms and over 2,000 individually crafted nodules. The manufacturing process remains true to the original – craftspeople in Italy cast the pieces using flexible polyurethane in the 1972 mold. The surface receives a coating of Guflac®, Gufram's specialized finish that provides protection while preserving the material's tactile qualities.
Despite its new color scheme, the piece retains its practical function as a coat rack. The gray tone allows it to blend into various settings, from private homes to office spaces, while maintaining its sculptural presence.
This release continues Gufram's history of experimenting with established designs. By removing the bold colors that characterized previous versions, BORING CACTUS® offers a different perspective on a familiar form.
The BORING CACTUS® is available through Gufram's distribution channels. Detailed information about pricing and availability can be found on the company's website.
