Summary:

  • Muji introduces a minimal 20-inch wheel steel frame bicycle in five colors.
  • The matching helmet features a magnetic buckle and hairstyle space.
  • Both items launch in Japan on August 19 with no European release date yet.

Muji offers a new take on urban commuting with a minimal bicycle. You already know the brand for a stripped-back approach to household goods, and now Muji applies this ethos to personal transport. The 20-inch wheel bicycle features a slender steel frame, giving you a maneuverable ride suited for city streets. Muji chose to skip built-in lights and locks so you choose your accessories based on your needs. The bike comes in five muted colors, letting you choose between gray, brown, dark green, burgundy, and beige. The base model costs around €155, while a version with a front basket costs about €175.

Muji introduces a functional helmet to address rider complaints alongside the bicycle. Muji collaborated with students from Aoyama Gakuin University and Yamano College of Aesthetics during the design phase. They researched why people avoid wearing helmets and found riders worry about ruining their hair. Muji built the new helmet to solve this problem. The front interior leaves space for your bangs, and the back section accommodates a ponytail. The helmet costs roughly €31 and comes in five colors to match the bicycles, though the helmet lineup replaces beige with black.

The helmet includes a reflective loop on the back to increase your visibility at night. You also use this loop to carry the equipment when you walk off the bike. Muji added a magnetic buckle to the chin strap so you fasten and unfasten the gear with one hand. A removable visor protects your eyes from sun and rain, and a dial on the back lets you adjust the fit to your head measurements.

These mobility items hit Japanese stores on August 19. Muji has not confirmed a European release date yet, so international buyers must wait. The design shows a practical approach to modern cycling. You get simple lines and useful features without any unnecessary branding. The focus stays entirely on utility and solving commuter annoyances. Muji keeps the aesthetic clean while addressing real barriers to safety gear use. You ride your bike safely without sacrificing your hairstyle or your personal style.
