Sean Wotherspoon Restores Rare 1958 Land Rover Series 2
Designer Sean Wotherspoon has completed his second collaboration with Jimmy Howson's Stuff by Spot workshop. The pair unveiled a restored 1958 Land Rover Series 2 during Monterey Car Week 2025.
The vehicle carries exceptional provenance. Built in England, it shipped to a Canadian engineer in 1959. The original owner kept the left-hand-drive 2.25 petrol model for over 40 years before selling it back to the UK in 2002.
This Land Rover never received road registration. Experts believe only six left-hand-drive Series 2 models remain in the UK. Three of these retain their original chassis, including this example.
Howson purchased the vehicle in early 2025. His Essex workshop completed the restoration between March and July. The team preserved original body panels wherever possible while addressing mechanical needs.
The restoration includes a rebuilt engine and transmission. Wolf alloy wheels replace the original steel rims. Modern features include CarPlay integration and custom rear seating with integrated speakers.
This project follows Wotherspoon and Howson's Porsche 2.7 RS collaboration from earlier in 2025. Where the Porsche emphasized bold colors and racing details, the Land Rover takes a different approach.
The Series 2 maintains its utilitarian character while gaining reliability improvements. The restoration respects the vehicle's working-class heritage while adding contemporary conveniences.
Wotherspoon's involvement brings fashion world perspective to automotive restoration. His approach balances historical accuracy with modern functionality. The Land Rover represents British engineering from the 1950s, when the Series models served farmers, military units, and adventurers worldwide.
The timing of the Monterey debut positions the Land Rover among high-value collector vehicles. Car Week attracts international buyers and automotive enthusiasts. The event provides exposure for specialty restoration projects like this Series 2.
Stuff by Spot operates from Essex, focusing on heritage vehicle restoration and modification. Howson's workshop handles projects ranging from classic Porsches to British utility vehicles. The collaboration with Wotherspoon expands the shop's profile beyond traditional automotive circles.
