SECONDA PARIS

We met Andrea and Marco at the end of a long day, when work is done and what remains is what you choose to build for yourself. We spoke with Marco on a call in the evening, after work, in that quieter moment where attention shifts from obligation to intent. That detail reflects the nature of Seconda. A project shaped outside traditional hours, driven by focus and personal commitment.

Both founders are Italian. Their roots inform the way they think about product, process, and long term value. The conversation felt direct and grounded. No performance, no distance. Just two designers building something with patience.

Seconda Paris positions itself outside the standard fashion cycle. This slower rhythm allows the team to focus on construction, material sourcing, and design clarity, instead of reacting to seasonal pressure.

Here the full interview to Seconda founder, Andrea Bertazzon:

What is Seconda Paris and how did the idea take shape?
"Seconda started two years ago, after I spent around ten years working in fashion across different roles and cities, until I reached a point where I felt ready to start something of my own with a clearer vision.

Before that moment, the idea existed but was not fully defined, while now it reflects both our professional experience and the context of the current fashion industry.

I still work full time in Paris, and Seconda exists alongside that structure, which gives us a certain independence because the project is not forced to grow too quickly.

Our intention was to build a brand that respects time, with one collection per year, so we can focus on product development, silhouettes, and materials without external pressure. Even if the studio is based in Paris, the production and much of the inspiration come from Italy, which remains central to our identity."

Why did you feel the need to launch Seconda Paris?
"We identified a gap in the fashion market between large luxury houses and emerging designers, especially in terms of product quality and price positioning.

Our goal was to position Seconda Paris in that space, offering strong design and high quality production while maintaining a more accessible price point compared to traditional luxury brands.

We are working towards a balance between concept, price, and product, ensuring that each element supports the others."

Seconda promotes a slower approach to fashion. How does this translate into your work?
"For us, slowing down means taking time to make decisions and develop each piece properly, instead of following the speed of the industry.

Producing one collection per year allows us to concentrate on construction, materials, and details, from the initial idea to the finished product. It also enables us to work with deadstock fabrics and existing resources, which require flexibility and a longer development process."

Versatility is a key element in your designs. What drives this approach?
"We are interested in creating garments that can transform, such as a t-shirt that becomes a bag or boots that can be worn in different configurations.

When someone buys a piece, they are also buying different ways of using it, which extends the life and relevance of the product.

We approach clothing as something dynamic, designed to evolve with the person wearing it."

Your first collection is called Fortuna, meaning luck in Italian. What does it represent for you?
"Fortuna reflects the tension between control and unpredictability, between planning and the unexpected, which is part of both life and creative work.

There is also a practical origin, because our initial name was already registered, so we had to redefine the project and arrived at Seconda as a second option. This idea of a second attempt became part of the identity of the brand, reinforcing the concept that sometimes things improve through repetition.

For us, Fortuna also represents the acceptance of uncertainty, which remains an important element in the way we design."

Why did you choose to start from accessories and footwear?
"Beginning with accessories and footwear is more complex for a young brand, as it requires significant development and resources, but it was essential for defining our approach.

Footwear establishes the silhouette, while bags influence how the body interacts with the garment, creating a complete visual system. From these elements, we build the rest of the collection in a coherent and consistent way."

What can we expect from Seconda Paris in the future?
"This first collection represents a foundation that we will continue to develop in the coming years. We plan to expand into menswear, introduce new footwear designs, and further explore accessories.

We are also interested in creating objects beyond clothing, extending the project into other areas. Our goal is to grow progressively while maintaining the same approach and level of independence.

Seconda Paris reflects a broader shift in contemporary fashion. Designers are building projects that sit outside traditional structures, balancing work and independent practice while focusing on product and process.

Andrea Bertazzon and Marco Marino are part of this shift. They are building slowly, with clear direction and a defined identity.

Seconda Paris has a clear foundation and is definitely one to watch.
