  • The amber bottle has a domed base, a taller shape and a cap inspired by basalt.

Aesop has rewritten its eaux de parfum under the name Fragrant Fables. The line now spans 12 eaux de parfum, including a new one called Unforeseen Aer. Each scent has a fable-style name and a short poem, and each poem ends with a question for you to consider.

The idea starts with the brand name. Aesop, the ancient Greek fabulist, used animals and everyday situations to talk about universal values. The brand applies the same method to perfume. You read a story about trust, authenticity or reinvention while you smell the composition.

Every fragrance has two parts. The Radical Ingredient is a single botanical extract used unfiltered, which shows different facets across the top, heart and base notes. The Fabulist Accord is a blend of three ingredients, built to recreate the smell of something with no scent in nature.

Three names show the system. Tacit Truths deals with trust. Basil is the Radical Ingredient, and the First Light accord combines yuzu, vetiver and fennel. Evoking Eidesis deals with authenticity. Sandalwood is the Radical Ingredient, and the Mirror accord combines neroli, petitgrain and black pepper. Journey to Ouranon deals with reinvention. Labdanum resinoid is the Radical Ingredient, and myrrh, patchouli and frankincense form an accord built to evoke ash.

Unforeseen Aer is the new addition. The theme is change and imperfection. Geranium, lavandin and rosemary form a Pure Air accord, and nutmeg adds warmth.

The bottle changed too. Aesop kept the amber glass and added a domed base with a taller, slimmer shape. The cap has a textured surface inspired by basalt, the rock on which Melbourne, the brand’s home city, was built. An insignia is embossed on the glass, and each box holds a fable and an image.

Availability depends on your market. Aesop listed the full range online and a selection in stores, with the remaining fragrances reaching stores over the following months.
