Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster present their fourth eyewear collection, built around the idea of “Deconstruction.” The range has 68 pieces, split into 43 sunglasses and 25 optical frames. The two brands released their first collaboration in 2023. The new collection launches on October 29, 2026, and pop-up spaces open on the same day.
The designs take familiar eyewear shapes and distort them. Some frames look crushed or modified. Oversized, high-volume models cover the face and extend the wearer’s peripheral vision. Gentle Monster describes these frames as masks enveloping the face. Narrow, upswept models sit inside leather wrapping, which creates a “Second Skin” effect. Margiela’s four white stitches mark the temples across the range. On the slimmer styles, the stitching looks woven and floats along the edge of the frame. Finishes run from dark tones and tortoiseshell to olive green, silver and gold.
Artist Alex Prager directed the campaign short film. The film follows a protagonist through a changing city during a ten-minute countdown. The eyewear shapes appear on a crowd of different characters. Gentle Monster says the campaign reflects both brands’ view of deconstruction as a beginning of creation, not an end.
Pop-up spaces with unfinished, irregular architecture open in eight cities: Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and Paris. The venues include Haus Nowhere Seoul at 433 Ttukseom-ro in Seongdong-gu, Tokyo Aoyama, Haus Nowhere Shanghai, Beijing Taikoo Li, ICON SIAM in Bangkok, The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur, Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne and the Marais in Paris. Seoul also hosts a live performance conceived by choreographer Damien Jalet and artist Ian McMahon. The performance translates deconstruction into physical movement.
You find the collection on the Gentle Monster website, with further release details on the Maison Margiela website.
