Summary:

  • Saint Laurent Montaigne in Paris shows Autoportrait, a selection of Martin Parr’s self-portraits chosen by Anthony Vaccarello.
  • The photos date from 1996 to 2015 and show Parr in portraits taken by professional photographers, local amateurs and photo booths.
  • The exhibition opened on October 15, 2026 and runs until January 13, 2027.

Autoportrait opened on October 15, 2026, at Saint Laurent Montaigne in Paris. The exhibition presents self-portraits by Martin Parr, the British photographer who died in December 2025 at the age of 73. Creative director Anthony Vaccarello curated the selection. You find the show at 37 Avenue Montaigne, in the 8th arrondissement, until January 13, 2027.

Parr made the images between 1996 and 2015. On his trips abroad, he had professional photographers, local amateurs and photo booths take his portrait. The results use staged backdrops, disguises and, in some cases, heavy retouching. The exhibition includes portraits taken in Singapore in 2007 and in London in 2008. Each one shows how people choose to present themselves in vacation photography, a habit Parr treated with humor.

The series also exists as a book. Dewi Lewis published Autoportrait in 2000, and Éditions Xavier Barral released an updated edition in 2015 covering 1996 to 2015.

Parr spent decades photographing beaches, tourist sites and consumer habits. He belonged to Magnum Photos from 1994 and served as the agency’s president from 2013 to 2017. Earlier in 2026, the Jeu de Paume in Paris held Global Warning, a retrospective of about 180 works, from January 30 to May 24.

Saint Laurent worked with Parr before. In May 2025, the brand released An Ordinary Day, a campaign art directed by Vaccarello and photographed by Parr. The images placed Saint Laurent clothes and accessories in British suburban settings, with garden tables, tea cups and fruit.
