Summary:

  • Thierry Henry, On’s Director of Football, posted images of the brand’s first football boot prototype on Instagram.
  • The pair, coded ON-DCPT-KM210, has a thin, translucent upper made with LightSpray robotic spraying.
  • On plans a public release in early 2027, with Kylian Mbappé leading the athlete roster.

On’s first football boot is still a prototype, and Thierry Henry has now shown more of the design. Henry, the brand’s Director of Football, posted images on Instagram of a pair stamped with the development code ON-DCPT-KM210. The former Arsenal and Barcelona forward, who won the 1998 World Cup with France, also wore the model on October 6 at Robert Pirès’ jubilee match at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz.

The upper is thin and translucent. On makes the material with LightSpray, a process in which a robot sprays filament onto a foot-shaped form. The method removes traditional seams and structural overlays. The boot looks minimal, and the design aims to cut weight. Laces remain, but the thin construction places the foot closer to the ball. On first used LightSpray in the Cloudboom Strike LS running shoe in 2024 and now applies the process to football.

On started in Zurich in 2010 and built the business on running shoes. Football brings different demands. A boot supports quick changes of direction and contacts the ball directly.

On announced the move into football in September 2026. Kylian Mbappé, a Real Madrid forward, leads the athlete roster. He wore the related ON-DCPT-KM010 prototype in September, and On has not officially explained the code numbering. Sydney Schertenleib, a midfielder for Barcelona and Switzerland, also takes part in development. The roster includes a men’s and a women’s player.

Henry’s pair is a development prototype, so the retail version is not final. The brand enters a market where established football names already compete. If you follow boot releases, the prototype shows the direction On takes, with thin material and no visible stitching. On schedules the public release for early 2027.
