Summary:

  • Diego Poncelet reached 151.83 km/h on a skateboard on a closed road in Charlevoix, Québec.
  • The speed is 5.10 km/h above the previous record of 146.73 km/h.
  • Prada Linea Rossa developed custom shoes and gloves for the run.

Diego Poncelet is now the fastest skateboarder on record. The Spanish rider, a Red Bull athlete and two-time downhill world champion, reached 151.83 km/h on the Route des Éboulements in the Charlevoix region of Québec, Canada. He rode a section of the road closed to traffic.

The previous record of 146.73 km/h belonged to Peter Connolly, who set the mark in 2017 at Les Éboulements, according to Guinness World Records. Connolly rode at L’Ultime Descente, a gravity sports event held in the same part of Québec. Poncelet beat the mark by 5.10 km/h. At his top speed, you would cover about 42 metres every second.

The attempt took years of preparation. Poncelet waited for the right mix of wind, temperature and road surface condition. He trained and developed his technique with engineers and specialists, who worked on his aerodynamics, physical preparation and control of the board at extreme speeds. Red Bull’s profile of Poncelet describes breaking the 146.73 km/h record as his hardest challenge so far.

On the first test day, he already beat the previous record by a small margin. He came back five days later and completed the record in a single run on the same course.

Prada Linea Rossa worked closely with Poncelet on his equipment. The brand developed custom shoes and gloves, combining high-performance materials with protection, comfort and grip. The shoes are handmade. They use a high-grip rubber compound and a herringbone sole pattern, both designed to improve friction with the board and give him more control.

The project adds a new chapter to the collaboration between Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull. The partnership supports athletes who challenge conventions and redefine the limits of their disciplines.
