Summary:

  • Shanghai opens the world's largest Legoland theme park on 318,000 square meters
  • Features 75 rides and attractions, hotel, restaurants, and 8 themed lands
  • Built with over 85 million Lego bricks including exclusive water-town boat tour

Shanghai welcomed visitors to the world's largest Legoland theme park on July 5, 2025. The massive complex spans 318,000 square meters in Fengjing Town.

Lego began operations 85 years ago when Ole Kirk Christiansen started making wooden blocks in the 1930s. The company opened its first theme park in Denmark in 1968 next to the original factory. Today, 12 Legoland parks operate worldwide.

The Shanghai location offers 75 rides, shows, and activities across eight themed lands. Visitors will find one hotel, six restaurants, 10 shops, and multiple food stalls throughout the park. Builders used more than 85 million Lego bricks to create thousands of models across the site.

Several attractions remain exclusive to Shanghai. The world's first water-town style boat tour takes guests through 25x scale Chinese water towns and a miniature Shanghai skyline. This ride reflects local culture and architecture.

The park hosted a grand opening week through July 13, featuring themed decorations and special activities. Visitors during this period accessed meet-and-greets, daily shows on Lego Plaza, mini-figure swaps, discounts, exclusive merchandise, and special treats.

The opening coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark. This timing connects the Danish toy company's expansion with broader cultural ties between the two nations.

The Shanghai resort extends beyond traditional theme park boundaries. The integrated complex combines entertainment, dining, shopping, and accommodation in one location. This approach follows successful models from other international Legoland destinations.

Construction teams worked to incorporate Chinese cultural elements throughout the park design. The water-town boat tour exemplifies this localization strategy, offering visitors familiar scenes recreated in Lego form.

The park's size surpasses all previous Legoland locations. The 318,000 square meters provide space for future expansions and seasonal additions to the attraction lineup.
