Space Jam turns 30 this year, and Jordan Brand marks the anniversary with a new capsule collection. The pieces will be available from November 5. The 1996 film, directed by Joe Pytka, placed Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes on the same basketball court. The brand’s ties to cartoons go back further. In 1992, Jordan and Bugs Bunny appeared together in the “Hare Jordan” advert. Nike now returns to this imagery and works with Wieden+Kennedy and the Warner Bros. Animation team to bring the references into the present.
The sneaker range sits at the centre of the project. You will find the Jordan First 1, the Air Jordan 3 Retro, the Air Jordan 1 Low SE and the Air Jordan 1 Low Golf Spike. The Air Jordan 11 receives five new versions.
Clothing follows, with pieces for men, women and children. The main item is a relaxed-fit varsity jacket. The jacket carries retro patches and graphics based on trading cards, and the lining shows a pattern drawn from the Monstars’ galaxy. The range also includes long-sleeve jerseys with Lola Bunny, hoodies, crewnecks, fleece trousers, t-shirts and shorts.
Sarah Mensah, president of Jordan Brand, said the film has linked basketball, entertainment and culture across generations. She pointed to the role of the Air Jordan 11 in sneaker history and to the film’s message about greatness starting with belief. Mensah said the collection honours details long-time fans remember and reworks the spirit for a new generation.
Designer Liv Bolung said the collection draws on Jordan Brand’s basketball heritage and the visual world of Space Jam, and does not recreate the past. The team reworked materials, graphics and silhouettes from the era into pieces suited to today, with a story built into each detail.
The partnership also includes the campaign “Greatness Is Never Out of Reach” and “Space Jam: Beyond the Jam”, a series of six mini-documentaries.
