1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?

Hi, I’m Amelie Hornung, and I run Studio Hornung — a multidisciplinary studio focused on crafting immersive, multisensory edible installations and sculptural works, as well as collectible objects.

I’m constantly drawn to exploring new things. My excitement rises quickly and boredom follows just as easily, which keeps me in motion most of the time. I’m always looking for the next shift, even when I’m not sure what it is yet.
Sometimes I feel trapped, sometimes completely open.
My artistic vision is to stay in motion — to avoid repetition and keep redefining my aesthetic language, without settling into a single form or material. In every project, I try to show a new side of my aesthetic thinking. I’m afraid of repeating myself. Right now, I’m focused on combining my sculptural work with edible installations.
As for what sets me apart — I honestly don’t know what sets me apart — it feels strange to claim that for myself.

2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.

The city I grew up in — and where I live again — hasn’t shaped me in obvious ways. It’s clean and orderly, not particularly exciting, which in a way has been a kind of freedom. Not being surrounded by too many people working in this field reduces pressure, allowing me to focus on my own work and explore ideas without too much distraction.

3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.

What fuels my creativity is often the pressure of time — deadlines bring out my best ideas and create a sense of rush. I don’t follow a classic routine. Sometimes I need to accept an empty mind or work through doubt. I try not to wait for clarity, because that can be frustrating. A lot of my work comes from pushing through confusion and letting ideas emerge in the process. My attention to small shifts in light, textures and surfaces also plays an important role — and I find inspiration in the imperfection within the perfection.

4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?

Moving between different places has shaped the way I work and approach my art. Searching for new shapes, designs and ways to express myself in different environments sometimes brought me to low points, but each place taught me something — not just what works, but also what doesn’t and what I need to start creating. In some cities I wanted to stay, in others I wanted to leave — both experiences helped me see what kind of spaces and conditions support my work. Since moving to my current city, I realized I don’t have to follow anyone else’s expectations, which has allowed me to find my own approach. The quieter environment gives me the focus to experiment and explore without distraction. Living in different places has influenced my work, my balance and my relationship with myself — and that process is still ongoing.

5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.

Right now, I’m experimenting with new shapes and materials and learning that things take time — not every idea becomes a final product or a clear path to follow, but that’s all part of the process. I don’t want to fixate on an end point or a final destination; I try to stay aware of the direction I’m heading while remaining flexible to changes along the way. Looking ahead, I’d like to turn my studio into a holistic project, where all of my work comes together and reflects the different facets of my practice.
