San San Gear and Jian Ye release their collaboration on Friday 6 November, at Japanese stockists such as GR8 and PULP and, from 6 PM Korean time, on the San San Gear online store and KREAM. Jian Ye is the Tokyo label led by designer Kan Sugano, and the capsule covers a fur-trimmed set-up, a packable jacket, a hoodie, T-shirts, hats and gloves. A three-day San San Gear x Jian Ye pop-up opens the same day in Jingumae, Tokyo.
The idea behind the San San Gear x Jian Ye collection
The starting point is the Three Mystic Apes, the monkeys that see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. The two brands add a fourth monkey, "do no evil", and turn the symbol into technical clothing.
Several pieces are built around that idea. The packable jacket folds into a bag shaped like a monkey. The snap buttons can be fastened in different ways so that the wearer can reproduce the gestures of the four monkeys. Some items also carry four beads, one for each monkey, used as a shared detail across the collection.
The campaign images show people and monkey-like figures sharing everyday scenes without paying attention to each other. Both are shot at eye level, from a neutral point of view, which the brands use to set out the world of the collection.
Who are San San Gear and Jian Ye
San San Gear was founded in Seoul in 2019 and combines technical construction with subcultural design. Its outerwear is built with waterproof, water-repellent and breathable fabrics for moving through the city and outdoors. In August the brand released its Fall/Winter 2026 collection, "Cable", which used organic cable lines as seams and hidden internal cords to adjust the fit, and opened a second flagship in Hannam, designed by Tokyo practice Daikei Mills in a former house. The label sells through 13 stockists in South Korea and 40 abroad, including GR8 in Tokyo, which also carries the new collaboration.
Jian Ye describes itself as an alternative brand, with Kan Sugano as its designer. The collaboration brings together youth culture from Japan and South Korea.
